1928

Since 1928 St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago, Ind. has brought healing to generations of families and to the people of many cultures who settled along the shores of Lake Michigan. St. Catherine was the first to introduce to the region advances in x-ray technology, treatments for polio, and helped to pioneer open heart surgery attracting patients from around the country. That tradition continues today as St. Catherine Hospital has become the 26th site in the U.S. to offer CyberKnife, a promising new radiosurgery technology to treat benign and malignant tumors.

St. Catherine Hospital is a member of the Community Healthcare System, the largest integrated healthcare delivery system in Northwest Indiana, and one that has been recognized by national consumer research as having the “best nurses,” “best doctors” and “best overall quality care.” The system comprises three not-for-profit hospitals: Community Hospital in Munster, St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago and St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart. These unique facilities are united by a shared philosophy of care and a local leadership committed to offering the latest medical advances, reinvesting in technology and our staff to strengthen the quality of healthcare.

St. Catherine Hospital and the Community Healthcare System provide a supportive environment for nurses and other medical professionals to advance their own skills and knowledge. With opportunities as vast as the scope of services offered throughout the healthcare system, career advancement is furthered by provisions to maintain benefits and length of service across the three hospitals.
